Drives assigned vehicles to work locations.
Installs and removes equipment and material such as line and instrument transformers, lightning arresters, cutouts, switches, line hardware and communication equipment; strings, splices, sags, ties in, dead ends, and removes wires and cables.
Operates line switches, patrols lines, locates and repairs faults, refuse line and transformer cutouts, changes line and transformer taps, phases out and parallels circuits.
Installs, repairs, and adjusts all types of voltage regulators.
Assembles and erects equipment mountings such as transformer platforms.
Erects and repairs steel towers and A and H frames.
Requests, makes, and accepts line clearances.
Records information and investigates trouble calls, determines the causes of the difficulties and makes the necessary repairs.
Locates radio and television interference and eliminates causes originating from Utility-owned equipment.
Maintains equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Performs duties in accordance with the Utility Distribution Standards, safety rules, and operating regulations and practices.
Assists in training other employees of lower classification.
Performs similar or less skilled duties as required.
Performs related duties as required.
I.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Thorough working knowledge of the functions of overhead lines and equipment gained through on the job training and experience and through apprenticeship programs.
Thorough working knowledge of the use of hot line tools.
Working knowledge of the Utility's Distribution Standards.
Working knowledge of the overhead/underground line circuits and their voltages within the system.
Must be proficient in the application of resuscitation methods as presented in the Utility Safety Manual.
Pass a qualified examination as determined by the Utility.
Uses hot line tools.
Uses instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters, maximeters, and records readings.
Ability to legally operate assigned vehicles and be able to operate all equipment on assigned vehicles.
Must have successfully complete approved apprentice training program.
Ability to obtain required Federal Commercial Driver's License.
II.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Receives detailed instructions and work is reviewed from time to time during the day.
Serves as lead man when foreman is not present and supervises those assigned.
Must work very carefully to avoid injury or damage to the equipment.
Incumbent reports directly to the Crew Foreman.
III.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Incumbent is required to do some heavy lifting, climbing, stretching, bending, pulling, pushing, and working with arms overhead and standing strapped to a pole for long periods of time.
IV.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent performs most duties outside with considerable exposure to all kinds of weather.
Working around high voltage lines poses a potentially hazardous situation.
Considerable risk is involved due to nature of tools and equipment used.
